Mr.Lorenzo Serra Ferrer was born on the 5th of March 1953 in Mallorca. He didn’t make a career as a football player and he started coaching just at the age of 28, taking over the technical leadership of minor Pomplense. His successful course attracted the interest of Mallorca and in 1983 he moved to the well known team of his homeland. He remained there for ten years, the six of which he was the head coach. With the team of the Balearic Islands he reached up to the 10th place of Primera Division.

In 1993 he accepted the proposal of Real Betis and Mr.Lorenzo Serra Ferrer moved at Sevilla. During his first year there, Andalucians finished third in the championship behind Barcelona and Deportivo la Coruna and ahead of Real Madrid. During the season 1996-97 Betis reached the fourth place under his instructions and was finalist in the Spanish Cup, where they were defeated by Barcelona 3-2 in a dramatic way.

Catalonian team made him a proposal to be a member of the technical staff and in the summer of 1997 Mr.Ferrer joined Barcelona. Three years later, the chairman of Barcelona showed his confidence in him and made him a successor of Luis Fan Gaal.

He remained at the leadership of Barcelona until April 2001 and for the next two years he took over the position of technical director of “blaugrana”. In 2004 he returned in Betis and led the team in the Spanish Cup title. Real Betis finished fourth in Primera Division and through the qualifying games last year, participated in Champions League for first time in team’s history.
