Giannis Papadimitriou was born on May 15, 1976 in Chalkida and moved from the local team to AO Xanthi in 1995-96 season. He played with Xanthi for fifteen years in the top level of greek footbal being the captain of the team for many seasons. He reached the National Team with five international appearances in 1999.
From 2010 and for the next ten years he was the Technical Director of AOX in which and responsible for the organization of the Academy as well. During his days in the team of Thrace, several young players were promoted from the youth system to the team A of the club. He is Head of the Academy since 1/3/2021, and the Executive Director of the club since 18/5/2021.
