From the bad end of 2021-22 season and the loss of European place, to the triumphant victory of the STOIXIMAN SUPER LEAGUE 2022-23. AEK returned to the top, now with their new home, the OPAP ARENA in Nea Philadelphia, which was inaugurated in a memorable ceremony on 30 September 2022.
With Matias Almeyda putting immediately his stamp on the team and with players who came in to bolster an already good squad and make a difference (Pineda, Gacinovic, Vida, Mukudi, Jonson, Eliasson, Fernandes, Van Veert) AEK became a team that stood out with its attacking football, especially in its home games in a stadium that was almost always packed.
Although they spent most of the regular season and playoffs in second place, in close proximity to the leading Panathinaikos, it was obvious that the momentum of this team was very strong and that they were clearly superior in quality to any other opponent. With dominant football and emphatic victories against their top rivals at home and away (2-0 and 4-0 PAOK, 1-3 Olympiakos away, two victories away over Aris ) AEK FC covered the lost ground of the first rounds and sent a message to friends and rivals that they were the potential champions.
When the play-offs became a race for two, Panathinaikos could not withstand the chase of the clearly higher quality and more complete AEK and the title was mathematically painted in yellow and black in the last matchday. After a 4-0 win over Volos NFC, AEK was crowned Greek Champions 2023 in a magical night of triumph at home!
